Who we are

PlayhouseFinder (playhousefinder.com) is a directory of theaters in the United States, from Broadway and touring houses to regional, community, children's and youth theaters, and the plays and musicals they are putting on. You can reach us at info@playhousefinder.com.

What we collect, and why

If you just browse

Server logs. Our web host records the usual request details (IP address, browser type, pages requested, time) for security and troubleshooting. These are kept for a limited time and not used to build profiles.
Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand which pages people use, so we can improve the site. Google sets cookies for this and processes the data under its own privacy policy. We do not enable advertising features.
Your location, only if you ask. The "Near me" feature uses your browser's location or a city you type. Coordinates are used for that search and are not stored unless you save a home city in your account settings.

If you create an account

Email address and, optionally, a name. Used to sign you in, to send the confirmation link, and for the alerts you ask for. Your email is never shown to other visitors.
Password. Stored only as a one-way hash. We cannot read it.
Google sign-in. If you choose "Continue with Google", Google sends us your email address, name, and an account identifier so we can recognize you next time. We do not receive your Google password and we request no other Google data.
What you follow and save. Theaters, writers, directors, performers and shows you follow, productions you save, and an optional home city and radius, so we can tell you when something you care about announces a new production. We also keep a simple activity log (for example, "followed the Guthrie Theater on September 3") so we can see what theatergoers are interested in and improve the site. If you add your personal calendar to a calendar app, that app fetches a private address listing those productions; anyone who has the address can see them, and you can reset it on your page at any time.
"I'm going" and messages. If you mark a production as one you're going to, other signed-in members can see your display name, party size, whether you're open to meeting up, and any note you add, unless you untick "show me to other members". Members can message each other on the site; we store those messages so both people can read them, we may review a message that is reported, and we email you about new messages unless you turn that off. You can block any member, which hides you from them and stops their messages. Your email address is never shown to other members.
Profile, impressions and discussions. Your profile (display name, optional handle, about line, bio, home city, shows you're going to and have seen, what you follow) is visible to other signed-in members only while "profile public" is on; each part has its own switch in Settings. Impressions you write after a show and posts in discussions are public content shown with your display name, and can be read by anyone, including search engines; you can edit or delete them, and a private impression is visible only to you. We may hide content that is reported.
Sign-in and security records. IP address and timestamps of sign-ups and sign-ins, kept to prevent abuse and spam.

If you send feedback

What you write, and an email if you give one. The Feedback button (report a problem, suggest a feature, suggest a theater) stores your message and, if you leave it, your email so we can tell you what happened. Ideas and theater suggestions appear on the public ideas board without your name or email; problem reports are never public.
Technical details with a problem report. The page you were on, your browser and device type, screen size, time zone, and any script errors the page showed, so we can reproduce the problem. You can see exactly what is sent before you send it. A screenshot, if you add one, is kept on our server where only site administrators can open it.
Our issue tracker. Feedback is copied into Linear, the tool we use to track work, so the people fixing it can see it.

Cookies

A session cookie that keeps you signed in while you use the site.
An optional "remember this device" cookie, if you tick that box, so you stay signed in for up to 90 days. Signing out removes it.
Google Analytics cookies, as described above.
If you vote on the ideas board without signing in, a random identifier cookie so the same browser counts once.

We set no advertising cookies and we do not track you across other websites.

Email

We send account emails (confirmation, password reset) and, if you leave alerts turned on, at most one digest a day when something you follow announces a new production. You can turn alerts off in your account settings at any time. We do not send marketing email and we do not share your address with theaters or anyone else.

Who else sees your data

Nobody, apart from the services we need to run the site: our web host (which stores the database), Google (Analytics, and sign-in if you use it), our email delivery, and Linear (our issue tracker, for feedback you send). We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We will disclose information only if the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

Edit your name, home city, radius and email preferences in Settings.
Delete your account in Settings. This permanently removes your account, follows, saved productions and notifications.
Email us to ask what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it removed.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the UK, or California, you have additional rights under local law; the email above is the way to exercise them.

Children

PlayhouseFinder is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date above and, for account holders, mention it on your account page.
