The person who shapes the whole production: the staging, the performances and how the story is told.
The director reads the script, works with the designers on how the show will look and sound, casts the actors, and in rehearsal decides where everyone moves and how every scene should feel. In a musical the director works hand in hand with the choreographer and music director. A good director is mostly invisible: you notice the story, not the choices.
